Making Contributions
“It is not that we have a short time to live, but that we waste a lot of it.” – Seneca from On the Shortness of Life The current pace of work, life, home, and personal pursuits sometimes has a maddening pace that has each of us moving from activity to activity with sometimes very little time to think about what we are accomplishing. I find myself searching for and trying to create space during my days to truly comprehend and synthesize the activities going on at work and in life. One of my personal goals is to try and make the world a better place through active contributions. My church uses the gifts of time, treasure, and talent to define the offerings we all have available to provide. I try to frame how I am splitting my time, treasure, and talent into buckets of influence toward what efforts I am focusing my contributions toward. Do I have more time to provide to an endeavor? Has my financial situation changed that I would like to contribute more to a venture? What talents do I have available that I may not be fully utilizing? Taking stock of these items grounds me and allows me to ensure I am an active participant in the goals I have for myself. How are you participating in life? Or are the ebb and flow of the undercurrents pulling and pushing you in their own directions instead of where you want to be heading? Would you like to make a difference for veterans, military spouses, and military members? Have you considered mentoring a blossoming project manager? Take some time to volunteer to be a mentor to pass on your time, treasure, and talents to our great nation’s service-members, veterans, and military spouses. Come join us at VPMMA and provide your unique knowledge, skills, and abilities at https://www.thevpmma.org/become-a-mentor.html Thanks for your continued support of VPMMA, veterans, project managers, and industry. Until the next newsletter, stay safe and stay strong!! ~Phil

Welcome to the first of many installments of the VPMMA newsletter! VPMMA has evolved over the last year from a startup to forming a cohesive group focused on delivering quality mentoring and services to veterans wherever they may be in their journey. We continue to look for methods to enhance our offering for veterans and industry to benefit both. Some examples include:
Mentoring Platform Our board actively searched out a mentoring platform to improve the mentor/mentee experience for the future. By researching over six different platforms, we were able to see the benefits and disadvantages of the different systems in supporting our outcome of providing industry-based project management career mentorship and networking opportunities for our great Nation’s Service-Members, Veterans, and Military Spouses. In the end, our research identified Qooper as the new platform we will be using for the future of our mentoring platform. Fall Run/Walk This fun event will bring together the VPMMA collective and sponsors for a virtual run/walk while helping hundreds of veterans, service members and military spouses start, navigate and/or advance their careers in project management. Each participant whether pledging or as a runner/walker will be able to make a contribution to VPMMA. This is just a small sampling of what is in store in the near future. With the coronavirus pandemic continuing to provide challenges, our future golf tournament in Arizona will be on the horizon for Spring 2021…more to follow. Thanks for your support of VPMMA, veterans, project managers, and industry. Until next newsletter, stay safe and stay strong!! Phil |
